FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — University of Arkansas outfielder Andrew Benintendi has been named college baseball’s Player of the Year by Baseball America.
Benintendi’s selection by Baseball America was announced Thursday and comes after he was named Collegiate Baseball’s Player of the Year on May 28. He was previously named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and is a finalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy.
Benintendi is tied for the national lead with 19 home runs and is third in the nation with a .715 slugging percentage. He also has 55 RBI and 23 stolen bases.
He was selected earlier this week by the Boston Red Sox with the seventh overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft.
Arkansas travels to Omaha, Nebraska, this weekend for College World Series.
