The Arlington seventh-grade AAU girls basketball team won the Gold Division at the recent middle school state championships in Spokane.
Arlington defeated Camas 57-41 in the title game on March 13 at the Spokane Convention Center. Arlington finished the tournament with a 4-0 record, outscoring its opponents 211-111.
Members of the team included Ava Yeckley, Hailey Hiatt, Melyssa Gordon, Kambriella Smith, Shayla Lewis, Jordan Bartlow, Abbey Hassing, Abby Schwark, Ella Strittmatter, Josie Stupey and Makenzie Gage.
The team was coached by Jamie Stupey. She was assisted by Julie Strittmatter.
Soccer team wins Presidents Cup
The Snohomish United Black U-15 boys team won the Washington Youth Soccer Presidents Cup on Feb. 20-21 at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila. The Snohomish squad defeated Seattle United Samba 2-1 in the championship match.
Snohomish defeated Kent United 1-0 in the semifinals.
With the state championship, Snohomish United advances to the Region IV Presidents Cup tournament, scheduled for June 14-19 at the Stenger Soccer Complex in Arvada, Colorado. The regional winner moves on to the national Presidents Cup finals in July in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Snohomish team includes goalkeeper Miguel Herrera, defenders Max Henderson, Adam Kowalchyk and Alex Steigenga, midfielders Hayden Rubio and Tate French, and forwards Brayden Corwin and Owen Fiedler, all of Snohomish; defender Elijah Beals and midfielder Cameran Haupt of Mill Creek; defenders Manny Margarito and Jacob Woodward, and midfielder Ethan Anastasi, all of Lake Stevens; defender Freddy Martinez and midfielder Emanuel Vallejo of Sultan; and midfielder Nathan Bennett of Monroe.
The team is coached by Pat Henderson.
