Tim Acker, a 2005 graduate of Arlington High School, has been named to the American Football Coaches Association’s NCAA Division III All-America Team.
Acker, a defensive back for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., was one of two sophomores on the 25-player team.
Acker started all 10 games for the Engineers this past season and ranked fourth on the team in tackles with 62. He had a team-high six interceptions, four sacks, a forced a fumble and a fumble recovery. His sack total ranked second on the team.
Acker also returned punts for the Engineers, setting a school record for punt return yards in a season with 317 on 20 attempts. He had a school record 85-yard punt return for a touchdown and an 82-yard punt return for a score in the Engineers’ 41-3 win over Merchant Marine on Oct. 20.
The Engineers finished the season 8-2 and won the Liberty League championship.
