Arlington rolls to 26-point victory over Sedro-Woolley

ARLINGTON – The Arlington Eagles girls basketball team opened the season impressively with a 73-47 non-conference victory over Sedro-Woolley Friday night.

Sophomore Randi Richardson led all scorers with 35 points and scored 21 of her team’s 22 first-quarter points as the Eagles (1-0 overall) never looked back.

Richardson added 10 rebounds and four steals.

“Randi was very impressive tonight,” Arlington coach Corey Gibb said.

Jasmine McCormack added 11 rebounds, all in the first half, and six points for Arlington.

Megan Buckmeier tried to keep her team in it, scoring 28 points for the Cubs.

Lake Stevens 51, Ferndale 50 (OT): Senior point guard Brittni Estes scored 12 points, including six in overtime, to carry Lake Stevens to the non-conference win. Estes, who played the entire 36 minutes, hit a 3-pointer in overtime and sank the deciding free throw. She also held Ferndale star Liz McCarrell to just six points in the fourth quarter and overtime. Lake Stevens’ Katie Holloway hit a rebound putback as time expired to tie the score at 43. Holloway had 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Sophomore Erica Huffman supplied 15 points and 10 rebounds and shot 7-for-7 from the free-throw line, while Danielle Greaby finished with 16 points, including 12 in the second half. Mariner’s Shania Moore preserved the win by blocking a potential tying mid-range jump shot with 10 seconds to play.

McNeill scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds and teammate Amanda Watts piled up 18 points and six rebounds. After shooting 0-for-25 from the 3-point line Wednesday in a 53-26 loss to Bellingham, the Wildcats made seven of 18 (39 percent) long-range attempts on Friday.
