The senior wide receiver/safety caught seven passes for 151 yards and scored two touchdowns in Kamiak’s 28-21 Class 4A state semifinal loss to Bethel. He also made a key tackle to hold a Bethel pass receiver short of a first down, forcing a punt and giving Kamiak possession of the football in the fourth quarter of a one-touchdown game.
This was Boyle’s first year of high school football and he was named to the all-conference first team on offense and defense.
“He’s bright,” said Kamiak assistant Mike Wheat, who served as Boyle’s position coach. “He was quick to pick up our defense. His best attribute is his field vision on both sides of the ball.”
A basketball player, Boyle said had been reluctant to play football for fear of injury. But Wheat said Boyle took to contact immediately.
“From day one he was never shy about that,” Wheat said. “He enjoys the game. He likes to play.”
