The senior wide receiver/defensive end was a one-man wrecking crew as Snohomish captured the Western Conference 4A championship with a 41-10 victory over Sehome. He scored four touchdowns, three on pass receptions and one on a pass interception return, and had four quarterback sacks.
“At one point someone said the score was Sehome 10, Zimmerman 24,” said Snohomish coach Mark Perry.
Witnesses said several of Zimmerman’s catches were spectacular. For one, he went airborne, got the fingertips of his right hand on the ball, flicked it back toward his chest and made the catch while falling on his back.
“(Assistant) Coach (Keith) Gilbertson told the kids that’s not luck,” Perry said. “He makes those catches every day in practice.”
Perry said most teams can’t cover the 6-foot-4 Zimmerman man-to-man.
“He has great leaping ability and tremendous concentration on the ball,” Perry said.
