Athletes of the Week

Marquise Moses

Marysville-Pilchuck, football

After an impressive varsity debut (145 yards, two touchdowns and an 80-yard punt return) in the Tomahawks’ season-opening victory, the junior running back produced quite an encore. Moses ran for 224 yards and two TDs, including the game-winner, to push M-P past heavily favored Snohomish, 15-14.

Moses credited his offensive line, including frequent lead blocker John Miller, a junior tackle.

A lanky speedster at 6-feet, 165 pounds, Moses shouldn’t be able to run over tacklers, but he does with regularity.

“I always try to get as much as I can, because I don’t want to go down on the first hit. That would make me look like I’m not even trying.”

Moses has been nicknamed “Monkey Arms” by teammates, and he effectively uses those long limbs to fight off defenders. In some cases, his stiff-arms approach battering-ram force.

“I know I have an advantage against some people when they try to tackle me, and I can get away that way.”
