Athletes of the Week

The senior center had back-to-back double-doubles – giving him four straight – then scored 28 points in an 83-61 win over Oak Harbor. Krischano had 19 points and 13 rebounds in a 54-41 loss to Mount Vernon, and 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 43-34 victory over Monroe.

“He really is a work horse,” Marysville-Pilchuck coach Mike Lowery said. “He puts in the effort and gets the points. He works hard at things.”

At 6-foot-4, Krischano is relatively small for a center.

“But he’s broad,” Lowery said, “and really aggressive. He’s an inspiration to the rest of the kids.”

This is Krischano’s second year on the varsity, but his first as a starter. He is a team co-captain.

“He has taken advantage of that role,” Lowery said. “He’s the real key to everything we’ve done so far. He’s a quiet leader. He leads by example.”

Krischano is also a pitcher for the M-P baseball team and Lowery said Krischano thought his future would be in that sport.

“Now, he’s considering basketball as well,” Lowery said.

The senior guard capped her week with a triple-double in the Loggers’ 82-35 win over Concrete. She had 26 points, 14 rebounds and 11 steals. She missed a quadruple-double by one assist. She also had 28 points, 12 rebounds, eight steals and seven assists in a 68-20 win over Friday Harbor.

Jones is averaging 24.1 points per game despite often being double teamed by opponents.

“She has had three or four triple-doubles already this season,” Darrington coach Ben Bryson said. “It’s unbelievable what she is putting up number-wise.”

In addition to leading the Loggers in scoring, Jones, at 5-foot-4, leads the team in rebounding and assists.

“Her court sense is something you can’t teach,” Bryson said.

Bryson has heard that Eastern Washington is interested in Jones, but said he doesn’t think she’s getting as much attention from colleges as she should.

“Her height is a problem,” Bryson said, “but her ability … She has a great crossover move.”

Jones is part of a backcourt tandem that jumps on teams early.

“We’ve had a 33-point first quarter this season,” Bryson said. “We blow teams away with our quickness at the guard position.”
