NEW YORK — Suspended Sean Avery has met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman for about three hours at a disciplinary hearing to discuss derogatory comments the Dallas Stars forward made earlier this week.
Dressed in a gray suit and wearing big, dark designer sunglasses, Avery, the fashion-conscious agitator, brushed by reporters and camera crews as he entered and left NHL headquarters Thursday.
The NHL suspended Avery indefinitely on Tuesday when he used a crude expression to describe former girlfriends now dating other hockey players while speaking to reporters. Hours later, Bettman punished him for making “inappropriate public comments, not pertaining to the game.”
A decision on Avery’s full punishment was expected late Thursday or Friday morning.
