In this case literally, as rookie defenseman Ryan Murray will be out at least a month after suffering a broken thumb during Everett’s 5-4 victory at Kelowna on Saturday.
This is a big blow to the Tips as Murray, in my opinion, was off to the best start of any 16-year-old in franchise history (including Kyle Beach). Thrust straight into the No. 1 defensive pairing as a rookie, he had nine assists in Everett’s first eight games and was an astounding plus-14.
I expect Alex Theriau to see an increased role while Murray is out.
In other injury news, left wing Dan Iwanski continues to be held out of practice because of his knee injury. However, coach Craig Hartsburg said he expects Iwanski to resume skating this week.
