I’ve been given the go ahead to make the trek to Kennewick during the first-round playoff series between the Silvertips and Tri-City. Traveling with the team during the playoffs had been in the balance because of budget reasons. But this is great for coverage, as I now will get a first-hand look at Everett’s road games, as well as the capability of getting immediate reaction from both sides. It’s also great for me, as I’ve been to every playoff game in franchise history except two during that first-season run, and I’d hate for that string to come to an end.
However, since I’ll be covering the games in Kennewick in person, that means there will be no live blogs for the away games. I’m sorry about that, but not very. And make sure you check in before and after the games, as I’ll have my standard home gameday posts for the games in Kennewick.
As for the Tips themselves, the most interesting thing so far this week is that there’s been 24 skaters on the ice during practice. Yep, that’s everyone.
Missed games have been a common theme for the Tips this season as head coach Mark Ferner, for a variety of reasons (injuries, suspensions, international duty), has rarely been able to pick a first-choice lineup.
Everett had three players sit out the final week of the season because of injuries, winger JT Barnett (knee) and defensemen Nick Walters and Austin Adam (both lower body). However, all three have rejoined practice just in time for the playoffs. Ferner stopped short of saying any of the three will be available for Friday’s Game 1, but it’s possible the Tips will back to full strength at just the right moment.
