Bartek scores hat trick to lead Silvertips to a 4-1 win over Regina

REGINA, Saskatchewan — Daniel Bartek scored two short-handed goals and an empty-netter to lead the Everett Silvertips to a 4-1 victory over the Regina Pats in Western Hockey League action Wednesday night.

Things didn’t look good for Everett (9-7-1-0), and particularly goalie Shayne Barrie, early in the game. The first shot Regina native Barrie faced, a floater from outside his blue-line, rattled off his mask and over the net. The next two, one a 50-footer and the other from a bad angle, rang off the post. Regina’s fourth shot, a soft one from Colten Teubert, beat Barrie low glove side.

A few moments later, Teubert laid a beating on Everett’s Taylor Ellington. But instead of giving Regina (11-6-1-3) a boost, the fight increased Everett’s intensity and the Silvertips won every battle from that point on.

Everett tied the game while short-handed midway through the second period when a pass to the point hopped over Teubert’s stick and gave Bartek a breakaway from his own blue-line. Bartek scored his ninth of the season on the ensuing play.

Everett went up 2-1 midway through the third when Paul Van de Velde’s centring pass was deflected in front of Regina’s goal and went in.

Five minutes later, Bartek scored his second short-handed goal of the night when he redirected a nice feed from Jesse Burt to put Everett ahead 3-1.

Bartek then capped off the night at the 18:37 mark with an empty netter for his hat trick and fourth point of the game.

Barrie made 23 saves for Everett. Rookie Damien Ketlo made 27 saves for Regina.
