SEATTLE — Basketball fans hoping to bring an NBA team back to Seattle say a measure is still alive in the Legislature to help pay for renovating KeyArena.
The Senate Ways and Means Committee on Saturday approved a bill that would allow King County to tap restaurant and car rental taxes as a funding source for the Seattle Center.
The group Save Our Sonics says the state and city of Seattle must approve arena legislation this year to get an additional $30 million from Clay Bennett, if no NBA team comes to Seattle by 2013. Bennett agreed to pay the money as part of the deal to end the KeyArena lease with the Sonics and move the franchise to Oklahoma City.
The Legislature is scheduled to adjourn on Sunday.
