The Washington basketball team and coach Lorenzo Romar met with media today before kicking off practice.
Confidence seemed high (when does it not to start a season) as players talked about returning to the pressure-defense, fast-paced game the team played in recent seasons before slowing things down a bit last year.
There wasn’t much actual news that came out today. We learned that Adrian Oliver, who broke his nose on the team’s trip to Greece, leading to surgery, will be allowed to return to full-contact practice starting next week. He said he will likely play with a mask on for a while.
Artem Wallace, who missed the Greece trip because of passport problems, is a little heavy right now, Romar said. Wallace has also been slowed by a hamstring injury, which has since healed, and Romar said he is running the weight off.
Joe Wolfinger, who has been plagued by a foot injury, said he is finally ready to go and feels 100 percent. He is still being limited to an hour and a half of work each day, Romar said, but can go full speed during those workouts.
Romar indicated that Jon Brockman and Quincy Pondexter seem likely to start, but that the other spots are wide open.
