I’m here at BC Place for the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Fans must have taken the warning about long security lines seriously, because the dome (the first indoor venue to host an opening ceremonies, by the way) is already pretty full 90 minutes before the show is scheduled to start.
Currently the fans are being entertained by Jully Black—apparently she’s an R&B star here in Canada. Funny, this dome sounds a little bit like the Tacoma Dome when it comes to acoustics. And for those who haven’t been, that’s not a good thing.
Above is a picture from my seat in the press area. Herald photog Jenny Buchanan is here somewhere (they have numerous photo areas, so I’m not sure where she has been placed) and I’m sure she’ll eventually post some much better pictures than my amateur attempt.
And no, I can’t tell you any secrets about what is going to happen. The info in the press kit is embargoed until later, and I’m quite certain if I post anything I’ll be drug out of the stadium and put on the next bus back to America. If you can’t wait until the delayed coverage on NBC, however, I will be able to post updates here as they happen live, which is an hour ahead of what you’ll see back home.
