YAKIMA – It was all Yakima from the first inning on as the Bears shut out the AquaSox 6-0 at Yakima County Stadium on Thursday.
Yakima got on the board early, scoring in the first inning on a fielding error by Jermaine Brock. The Bears added another run in the second inning on a groundout by Shane Byrne.
The AquaSox threatened in the first but the rally was killed when Edilio Colina was the victim of a perfect relay throw to home plate.
The only other rally the Frogs were able to mount came in the fourth inning. Colina led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch, and advanced to second base on a wild pitch.
Halman then singled to put runners on first and third with nobody out.
Yakima pitcher Chase Christianson then picked off Halman at first and struck out the next two Everett batters to end the threat.
The Bears added a four-run fourth inning to pad the lead, and send the AquaSox to their second consecutive loss.
After tearing up the competition at home, Everett’s problems continued on the road. The AquaSox dropped to 10-16 when they are away from Everett.
Christianson had a solid outing for Yakima, allowing only four hits in seven innings and striking out eight AquaSox.
Everett, meanwhile, struggled to keep Yakima from reaching base. Will Brown retired all three Bears’ batters in order for the first time in the bottom of the seventh inning.
