Big second half helps Meadowdale pad lead in South

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – In a showdown between the top two girls basketball teams in the Wesco South, league-leader Meadowdale used a big second half to defeat second-place Mountlake Terrace 63-40 Tuesday.

The Hawks (10-3 in league, 12-3 overall) fell behind early but fought their way back to trail by just two points with less than a minute left in the second quarter.

The Mavericks (13-0, 14-0) sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer to take a 26-21 lead and momentum into the break. Meadowdale outscored Terrace 37-19 after the intermission.

“In the second half they came out and made some hustle plays. The fourth quarter was all them,” Hawks assistant coach Gena Dalan said. “We were taking quick shots and not setting up, not running our offense.”

The Mavericks’ Caitlin Rohrbach scored a game-high 19 points and teammates Ashley Fenimore and Latrina Woods combined for 22 more.
