Seattle Storm point guard Sue Bird underwent successful surgery to repair the labrum in her right hip the team reported on Tuesday.
The surgery took place in Vail, Colo. and was performed by Dr. Marc J. Philippon, the same doctor that performed Lauren Jackson’s labrum surgery earlier this year.
“The surgery went very well,” Philippon said in a press release by the Storm. “Everything that we expected in the pre-op planning was corrected surgically and went well. We expect a full recovery. She should be able to play full professional basketball by mid to late December.”
The Storm said Bird is reaming in Colorado through the weekend and is resting comfortably.
Bird and Jackson’s injury are similar in nature, but Bird’s was due to wear and tear over a long period of time, while Jackson’s was due to an isolated incident suffered in a game this last season against the Tulsa Shock.
