BLOG: Sutter talks Top Prospects and the latest ThunderTips podcast

Roommates Riley Sutter and Carter Hart were on the Silvertips Hockey Tuesday night at Sporty’s Beef and Brew. If you look closely, you can see Sutter is wearing his CHL Top Prospects sweatshirt.

Sutter competed at the event last week and I finally got the chance to catch up with him today to chat about it.

“It was a learning time to meet some new faces and kind of get a chance to showcase my talent and see where I’m at with all the other players around the CHL,” Sutter said. “It was good to get on the ice the night we got there to get the travel legs out and just to meet faces before everything got going.”

This year’s event was held in Guelph, Ontario, and Sutter flew out last Tuesday. Both teams held a brief team skate that evening and held on-ice testing on Wednesday before competing in the game Thursday.

It was a longer trip for Sutter than it was for Hart two years ago when Hart participated in the 2016 game at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver.

“When I first got there I was pretty tired,” Sutter said. “I think the skate the night we got in was pretty tough, but I think it helped us flush out our legs for the next day for all the on- and off-ice testing.”

Sutter flew back west Friday morning and was in the lineup for Everett’s 3-1 home win over Seattle that evening. He added an assist the following night in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Thunderbirds in Kent.

Then he was a healthy scratch Sunday when the Tips played host to Spokane. League rules only permit players to compete in games in three consecutive days. Thursday’s Top Prospects Game counted toward that total.
