Blood wins 300-lap enduro at South South Speedway

ROCHESTER — Neither rain nor hail can keep a racer from racing.

Eddie Blood of Olympia took the lead on lap 226 of what had been a three-car duel and held on to win the first of four 300-lap Bumblebee/Hornet/Stinger endurance races on Saturday, March 1 at South Sound Speedway

Braving both rain and hail — all that was missing was snow — the crowd was asked to pick the best looking car to serve as pole sitter, and Longview driver Dan Walker was chosen to lead the 50-car field to the green flag on the three-eights mile paved oval.

Walker led for 24 laps before his engine blew, and Dan Woodward and Ben Callies dueled for the top position until lap 49. Scott Johnson took over the lead until lap 102, when his car caught fire and he was black flagged.

Woodward and Callies went back to swapping the lead again until lap 226 when Blood passed Woodward and never looked back.

Dan Rhodes finished second, followed by Clint Anderson, Scott McDowel and John Davis. Rounding out the top 10 were Jimmy Moen, Dan Coutts, Cody Koroshes, Kevin Penticost, and Brian Buxton.

The next 300-lap Enduro will be held on May 26.

With open practices the next two weekends, the regular season of racing at South Sound Speedway will begin on March 22, featuring the pure stock, mini stock, mini cup, baby grand’s and bumblebee classes.
