PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland State basketball coach Ken Bone has signed a five-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2012-13 season.
Bone, in his fourth season with the Vikings, agreed to a deal that will pay him a base salary of $125,000 this season, with annual increases of $7,500 over the next four years and additional performance-based bonuses, The Oregonian newspaper reported.
Last season Portland State won 23 games, most ever in school history, and earned the program’s first trip to the NCAA tournament Big with a victory over Northern Arizona in the championship game of the Big Sky Conference tournament.
Bone is 67-44 at Portland State.
“To me, personally, when you sign a five-year contract, you feel some stability. With a wife and three daughters, I’m looking out for all of us, and it’s nice to know that for the next five years, this is where we plan on being,” Bone said. “And, hopefully, for five more years after that.”
