I got word today of boys basketball coaching changes at two local high schools.
Greg Turcott said in an e-mail that he has resigned his job as head boys basketball coach at Archbishop Murphy. Turcott coached the Wildcats for two seasons, leading them to back-to-back Class 2A District 1 tournament trips. Murphy went 17-5 (14-0 in the 1A/2A Cascade Conference) in Turcott’s first season and followed that up with an 11-11 record (9-5 in conference) this past winter.
“I have decided to resign my position as boys basketball coach at Archbishop Murphy, mostly to spend more time with my family,” Turcott wrote Friday in an e-mail.
The other hoops coaching news is at Granite Falls High, another Cascade Conference school. Steve Hume was named the Tigers head boys basketball coach. He takes over for Keith Johnson, who recently retired.
“We are very excited to bring Steve on board in our athletic program. He will continue to work with the kids in a positive fashion to develop great basketball skills,” Granite Falls athletic director Mark Neuman said in a prepared statement.
Hume played basketball at Curtis High in University Place. He owns his own consulting business.
I will post more details about these coaching changes as soon as possible.
