ARLINGTON — Lynnwood held Everett to single digits in all but the last quarter in taking a 47-33 consolation bracket victory in the 3A District 1 playoffs Friday at Arlington High School.
Lynnwood advanced to another loser-out game against Ferndale at 6 p.m. Monday at the Arlington gym. The Royals need three more wins to earn a state berth.
Aaron Matzen scored eight of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter and six in the second as the Royals got out to a 22-12 halftime lead. He wound up shooting 8-for-12 from the field. Lynnwood shot 20-for-40 as a team.
Everett put up 18 3-point attempts, but made just four. No Everett player reached double figures in scoring.

Tyler Busby and Cole Carpenter each scored 13 points for the Eagles, who are now out of the playoffs. Shorecrest plays Meadowdale at 8 p.m. Monday in a loser-out game at the Arlington gym.

Padron scored a team-high 16 points and Cullen Hammontree and Louis LeBate each had eight assists. Parker Omey led Sehome with 24 points. Cedarcrest will play Blaine or Lynden in a winner-to-state semifinal at 7:45 p.m. Monday at Mount Vernon High School.
