Boys hoops: Lynnwood defense gets stingy

ARLINGTON — Lynnwood held Everett to single digits in all but the last quarter in taking a 47-33 consolation bracket victory in the 3A District 1 playoffs Friday at Arlington High School.

Lynnwood advanced to another loser-out game against Ferndale at 6 p.m. Monday at the Arlington gym. The Royals need three more wins to earn a state berth.

Aaron Matzen scored eight of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter and six in the second as the Royals got out to a 22-12 halftime lead. He wound up shooting 8-for-12 from the field. Lynnwood shot 20-for-40 as a team.

Everett put up 18 3-point attempts, but made just four. No Everett player reached double figures in scoring.

Shorecrest 58, Arlington 56: At Arlington, Mark Golike scored 13 of Shorecrest’s 20 points in the fourth quarter to give the Scots the 3A District 1 playoff victory. Tyler Busby and Cole Carpenter each scored 13 points for the Eagles, who are now out of the playoffs. Shorecrest plays Meadowdale at 8 p.m. Monday in a loser-out game at the Arlington gym.

Cedarcrest 66, Sehome 64: At Duvall, Cameron Padron scored with two seconds remaining to break the tie and give Cedarcrest the 2A District 1 playoff victory over Sehome. Padron scored a team-high 16 points and Cullen Hammontree and Louis LeBate each had eight assists. Parker Omey led Sehome with 24 points. Cedarcrest will play Blaine or Lynden in a winner-to-state semifinal at 7:45 p.m. Monday at Mount Vernon High School.

Jake Anderson scored 31 points for the Tigers while Dylan Healow led the Wildcats with 11 points and three 3’s. Archbishop Murphy plays South Whidbey in a loser-out game at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Vernon High School.

Vashon Island 58, King’s 56 OT: King’s gave up an eight-point lead heading into the fourth quarter and lost the 1A District 1 playoff game in overtime to Vashon Island. Erich Fuhlendorf scored a game-high 24 points for King’s, which will play in a winner-to-state, loser-out game at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
