BOYS PREP ROUNDUP: Jackson scores twice in 7th inning to nip Cascade

MILL CREEK — It wasn’t pretty, but the Jackson baseball team managed to come back for an early-season win Wednesday at Jackson High School.

Sam Brown smacked a sun-and-wind assisted triple to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Timberwolves benefited from a drawn-in infield and a wild pitch in a 6-5 win over Cascade.

“For an early season game, it was an exciting game,” Jackson head coach Kirk Nicholson said. “But both teams still have some stuff to work on.”

The teams combined for six errors and Jackson scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning and two runs (one earned) in the sixth to claw back from a 5-2 deficit.

Following Brown’s triple to right field, Isaac Kim doubled over a drawn-in infield to plate the tying run.

“They don’t get to it and he (Kim) goes all the way to second,” Nicholson said of the play. Cascade’s infield was playing up in an attempt to cut down the game-tying run at the plate.

Jackson (2-0 overall) was able to move Kim to third and he eventually scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Miles Brown had the only multi-hit game with two hits for Jackson.

Kyle Zuanich tossed six innings of three-hit baseball for Cascade (0-2) before being lifted in the seventh.

“Their pitcher did a nice job,” Nicholson said. “He just got a little tired at the end.”
