The University of Washington men’s basketball team has been at or near the top of the conference standings all season, but through last week, the Huskies had not had a player earn Pac-10 Player of the Week honors all season.
That changed Monday, as forward Jon Brockman, a senior from Snohomish, was given the award for his efforts in wins over Arizona State and Arizona last week. Brockman scored 21 points and shot 8-for-12 from the floor in Thursday’s overtime win over ASU, then followed that with a 19-point, 11-rebound effort in Saturday’s win over the Wildcats that clinched at least a share of the Pac-10 title for the Huskies.
Brockman, who is averaging 15.0 points and a conference-best 11.3 rebounds, has earned player-of-the-week honors five times in his UW career, including three times last year.
With its two wins last week, the Huskies jumped up to 16th in this week’s Associated Press poll and 13th in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.
