Browns’ Quinn worried about finger

BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn will have his injured right index finger examined by noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews.

Quinn, who broke the finger and damaged a tendon on his throwing hand in a win over Buffalo last week, will visit Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., for a second opinion on Tuesday, a person with knowledge of Quinn’s injury said on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

Quinn is seeing Andrews on his own initiative, the person said Monday night.

ESPN.com, citing an unnamed source, first reported Quinn’s trip to see Andrews.

Quinn, who recently took over as Cleveland’s starter, was benched by coach Romeo Crennel late in the third quarter on Sunday after throwing his second interception in a 16-6 loss to Houston, the Browns’ third straight defeat at home.

Crennel made the switch to Derek Anderson because of misreads made by the second-year QB, who broke the tip of his finger when he banged it on a Buffalo defender in the first half of the Browns’ 29-27 win. After the Texans’ loss, Quinn refused to blame his injured finger for his poor performance.

However, Crennel said Quinn had trouble throwing the ball because of the injured tendon.

“It makes it tough for him to spin it (the ball) the way he wants to spin it,” Crennel said.

Quinn thought he only bruised his hand last week but complained of soreness following practice on Wednesday. Tests revealed a small fracture on the tip of his finger.

Notes

DOLPHINS: Wide receiver Greg Camarillo will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, coach Tony Sparano. Camarillo left Miami’s 48-28 loss to New England in the second half Sunday and did not return. He underwent an MRI on Monday. The tear in Camarillo’s knee ends his breakout year with the Dolphins. He leads the Dolphins with 55 receptions for 613 yards and two touchdowns after catching a total of eight passes in his first two NFL seasons.

EAGLES: One day after he got yanked at halftime of a close game, five-time Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb got his job back — for now. McNabb will start when the Philadelphia Eagles host the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night. McNabb was pulled from a game for the first time in his career after two dismal quarters in Sunday’s 36-7 loss at Baltimore. The Eagles (5-5-1) trailed 10-7 at the time, but Reid thought second-year pro Kevin Kolb gave the team a better chance to win.

VIKINGS: Defensive end Ray Edwards calls his $25,000 fine for hits against Tampa Bay two weeks ago “ridiculous” and “outrageous.”

The NFL fined Edwards on Friday for a late hit on Bucs quarterback Jeff Garcia and what the league called a leg whip on an offensive lineman.

When asked about it Monday, Edwards said, “No offense to women, but men don’t wear panties. We chose to play this game. We don’t cry when we get cracked unexpectedly. That fine is what it is. Just got to go out there and play ball and have fun.”
