ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Tight end Teyo Johnson, a former football and basketball star at Mariner High School, signed with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills on Tuesday.
Johnson is attempting a comeback after missing all of last season with an injury.
The Oakland Raiders selected Johnson in the second round of the 2003 draft out of Stanford. He has three years’ NFL experience but has not played since being released by Arizona during the 2005 season. He has 26 catches for 288 yards and three touchdowns in 30 NFL games.
Johnson hurt his calf and was released by Denver in August after reaching an injury settlement with the team.
The Bills are depleted at tight end, with just two returning players under contract: starter Robert Royal and Derek Schouman, the second of Buffalo’s two seventh-round draft picks last year.
