SPOKANE — Walking Cabrera hit a grand slam and Jonatan Clase hit a two-run homer in an explosive 11-run fifth inning, Harry Ford launched his second home run of the season and the Everett AquaSox thumped the Spokane Indians, 15-2, on Tuesday in the first of a six-game series at Avista Stadium.
Cabrera finished the game 3-for-5 with six runs batted in, and Ford was 3-for-6 and added a double and two RBI for the AquaSox, who have won five games in a row.
While the offense continued to surge, the pitching was equally good Tuesday for Everett (9-6).
Bernie Martinez (1-0) started on the mound and allowed just one run on three hits in six strong innings pitched. Martinez struck out two and walked none. Luis Curvelo allowed a run on one hit in two innings of relief, and Logan Rinehart finished the game with a scoreless inning.
Braxton Fulford went 2-for-4 with a home run, and Juan Guerrero finished 2-for-3 for Spokane (6-7).
