WALTON ON THE HILL, England — Mark Calcavecchia surged into a two-stroke lead at the Senior British Open on Friday with a second straight round in the 60s.
After opening with a 4-under-par 68 to take a three-way share of the overnight lead with Mark McNulty and Mike Harwood, Calcavecchia shot a second-round 69. He had six birdies, including one on the final hole.
Calcavecchia is attempting to follow up his 1989 British Open win with a victory in the senior version. Peter Fowler of Australia is his closest challenger after a 68.
Tom Watson made a bogey-free 68 to move to 1 under and back in contention for the weekend.
