HILLSBORO, Ore. — Isaiah Campbell turned in a stellar outing in his second start of the season and star prospect Noelvi Marte hit an inside-the-park home run as the Everett AquaSox blanked the Hillsboro Hops 5-0 on Thursday afternoon at Ron Tonkin Field.
Campbell, the 76th overall pick by the Seattle Mariners in the 2019 MLB draft, allowed no runs on only one hit in five innings while striking out six and walking one.
Marte’s home run came on a long drive to the left-center gap in the top of the ninth inning. The ball hit the base of the wall and caromed away from the Hillsboro left-fielder. Marte raced around the bases and just beat the throw home standing up.
Marte, the No. 2 overall prospect in the Mariners’ farm system, finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI. Alberto Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a double and Dariel Gomez went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI for Everett (3-2).
A.J. Vukovich had two hits, including a double for Hillsboro (2-4), which was limited to just five total hits in the game.
