John Grant Jr. (Rochester Knighthawks) scored three goals and one assist and Washington’s Rhys Duch added three goals as Canada beat the United States 10-9 in group play Saturday at the FIL World Lacrosse Championships in Manchester, England.
Stealth transition player Paul Rabil had a goal and an assist for the US, which saw a 6-6 tie in the second half evaporate as Kevin Crowley and Garrett Billings (Toronto Rock) scored back-to-back goals giving Canada an 8-6 lead that it wouldn’t relinquish.

The Stars and Stripes face Germany, a 15-9 loser to Japan Saturday, tomorrow in the final game of group play. Canada plays Australia.
England dropped a 10-8 overtime loss to Australia. Stealth forward Lewis Ratcliff scored one goal in the loss.
England plays Japan tomorrow to close group play.
Washington residents Sten Jernudd and Kevin Powers helped lead Sweden to a 16-3 win over Italy in red group play.
Jernudd, a Seattle resident and Cornell University signee, had four goals and three assists while Powers (an Issaquah H.S. senior-to-be) added three goals and an assist.
Sweden has a big showdown with the Czech Republic tomorrow to decide first place in the red group.
