VANCOUVER, B.C. — Three Northwest League championship series games. Three shutouts. And it’s the Vancouver Canadians on the verge of a league title.
Gabriel Martinez broke up a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning, and that was enough to lift the Canadians to a 1-0 win over the Everett AquaSox in Game 3 of the best-of-five series on Friday night at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Everett lost the first game of the series 3-0 and won the second game 10-0 in the back-and-forth matchup of shutouts that has the Canadians one win away from the crown.
Four AquaSox pitchers combined to allow just one run on five hits in the game and struck out 10 batters. Reid Schaeffer pitched four scoreless frames to start the game. Jimmy Kingsbury took the loss after giving up the lone run in 1.1 innings pitched.
Everett’s offense also managed just five hits, two from shortstop Cole Young and two from designated hitter Blake Rambusch.
All 10 hits combined in the game were singles.
Game 4 of the series is scheduled for Saturday night in Vancouver with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
