EVERETT — Cascade High School’s boys basketball team bounced back from a heartbreaking season-opening overtime loss to Marysville Pilchuck with an emphatic 72-33 victory over crosstown rival Everett on Friday night.
It was the second game of a Cascade-Everett girls and boys BruGull Fest doubleheader in the Seagulls’ gym.
The Bruins led by 10 points after one quarter and 26 at halftime, and they continued to pull away to the end. Cascade had four players score in double figures, led by guard Brevin Brown with 21, including three 3-pointers. Guard Cameron McGrath had 14, forward Isaiah Gotell added 13 and forward Justin Gordon had 10.
Given the rivalry with Everett, “I told (the team) that we had to come out and play,” Cascade coach Darrell McNeal said. “We had to come out and play our way, our style.
“Overall I felt like we played pretty good,” he said, “but we still have some things to work on and improve. … We’re going to compete in a good league, so we just have to come out and compete every night.”
Everett, which dropped to 0-2, was led by the 13 points of guard David Popach.
