Cascade girls send two bowlers to state

TACOMA — Cascade High School girls bowling team will send two competitors to the state meet next Friday and Saturday in Tacoma. Jackson will also send a bowler.

The Bruins’ Breanne Mattson and Sara Elliot both qualified for state Saturday at Bowlero Lanes in the 4A tri-district meet. Mattson and Elliot each rolled 523 series and had high games of 192.

Aleeza Alvarez of Jackson qualified with a 475 series, and a high game of 166.

Mattson, Elliot and Alvarez all qualified by finishing in the top ten individuals that weren’t on teams that already received state berths.

Mattson is the defending 4A state champion. Elliot won the 4A tri-district meet last year, bowling a 300 game in the process.

According to Cascade coach Ron Hicks, Elliot’s perfect game remains the only one bowled in WIAA sanctioned girls district or state meet.

“They are both excellent bowlers. I think they have an excellent chance to do really well down there,” Hicks said. “As does Aleeza from Jackson.

“It will take 600 to win it, both Sara and Bree are capable of doing that,” Hicks added.

Cascade’s entire girls team also competed at the tri-district meet, but failed to qualify for state by 50 pins and finished in seventh place. Jackson did not send a full team to districts.

“To get your girls to go to state anytime is very rewarding. It always makes the coach look good even though it’s the girls that do all the work,” Hicks said.
