Cascade soccer teams nips Snohomish

EVERETT -The Cascade High School boys soccer team got two first-half goals and made them hold up in a 2-1 Western Conference North Division victory over Snohomish on Saturday at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The win moved the Bruins into a first-place tie with Snohomish. Both teams are 6-1.

“This was just a huge game,” Cascade coach Randy Malikowski said. “It is a great feeling knowing you beat a team like Snohomish.”

Cascade took a 1-0 lead when a Snohomish defender accidently deflected the ball past his own goalkeeper in the 11th minute.

The Panthers (6-1 overall) tied the game 25 minutes later on a goal by Alex Sirotak. However, the Bruins scored what proved to be the game-winner on Stefan Tangen’s goal with less than a minute remaining in the first half.

“They really pushed us in the last 10 minutes of the game,” Malikowski said. “They threw everything they had at us, but we were able to hold strong”
