Cascade tops Stanwood in boys tennis

STANWOOD – Cascade defeated Stanwood 5-2 in a Wesco North boys tennis meet on Monday.

With the victory, Cascade (14-1) remains a half game behind Snohomish (15-1) with a chance, with a victory over Mount Vernon on Tuesday at Cascade, to end up as Wesco North co-champs with the Panthers.

Stanwood is 12-4 and has a solid hold of third place in the North Division.

“The score doesn’t truly indicate how close the meet really was,” said Cascade head coach Bob Martin. “It was looking pretty scary, especially after Carlson (Michael, Stanwood) defeated Bovard (Wade) at No. 1 singles.”

No. 2 and No. 3 singles players Chad Schroeder and Scott Pawlak both won with relative ease in straight sets.

The Bruins proceeded to sweep the doubles competition with the team of Peter Allen and Josh McDonnell winning in straight sets.

Snohomish 6, Monroe 1: The Panthers won the Wesco North meet to claim at least a tie for the Wesco North Division championship.

Marysville-Pilchuck 5, Mount Vernon 2: Led by Kevin Parshall and Andrew Christopher, the Tomahawks swept the doubles to lead M-P in the Wesco North meet.

King’s 3, Seattle Christian 0: At King’s H.S., Kelly Irvin’s 10 assists, Jen Galliher’s four kills and the perfect serving of Jamie Debell, Beth Fosse and Rachael McIvor propelled King’s (9-3 in league, 9-3 overall) to a 15-7, 15-5, 15-8 sweep in the Chinook League match.

Snohomish County Christian 3, Bush 0: At Snohomish County Christian H.S., Melissa Kefgen had six kills, one block, two aces and was eight-for-nine from the service line to lead S.C.C. (4-6 in league) to the 15-9, 15-9, 15-9 Emerald City League victory.
