Cascade’s Skidmore leads 4A district tournament

BELLINGHAM – Cascade’s Renee Skidmore shot a 79 to take the first-round lead Monday in the Class 4A Northwest District girls golf tournament at Sudden Valley Golf Course.

Monroe’s Casey Westerman is second with an 85, six strokes behind Skidmore, who placed second in the state tournament last year. Westerman placed 38th at state.

Following today’s final round, which begins at 8 a.m. at Sudden Valley, the top 15 golfers move on to state. The state tournament is May 24-25 at Meadow Springs County Club in Richland.

Lakewood 3, Lynden Christian 2: Lakewood advanced to Districts with a victory over Lynden Christian in a loser-out tiebreaker for the final district playoff spot. Sami Hargrove hit a two-run home run in the third inning and Laura Hellstrom pitched a complete game, striking out 7 to lead.

3A District Tournament: Meadowdale’s Jon Keane shot a 74, four-shots back from the leader, after the first-round of the Class 3A District Tournament. Meadowdale had four golfers advance to today’s second round. The top 30 golfers advance to play in the second round.
