Cascade’s Skidmore wins 4A championship

KENNEWICK- Cascade’s Renee Skidmore shot a 73 on Tuesday for a two-day total 152 at Canyon Lakes and a three-stroke victory at the state 4A girls golf championship.

Skidmore, a sophomore, had three birdies and an eagle in a four-hole stretch to beat Kim Shin of Shorewood.

Gonzaga Prep took the team title, Gig Harbor was second and Bellarmine finished third.

Class 3A tournament: At Yakima, Ashleigh Gilhuly of Peninsula shot a final-round 72, even par at Apple Tree Golf Course, to win individual honors and Bellingham claimed the team title. Gilhuly’s 72 followed an opening-round 78 and gave her a 36-hole score of 150, one shot better than Sung E. Lee of Clover Park, who finished with a 79. Bellingham was led by sisters Lauren and Blair Ressler, totaling 88 points to runner-up Clover Park’s 67.5.

Team – Bellingham 88, Clover Park 67.5, Black Hills 67, Peninsula 63, Skyline 51.5.

Individual – Ashleigh Gilhuly, Peninsula, 78-72-150; Sung E. Lee, Clover Park, 72-79-151; Mary Kate Morgan, Mark Morris, 78-80-158; Lauren Ressler, Bellingham, 75-84-159; Sheena Prante, Black Hills, 81-80-161.

Class 2A tournament: At Sunnyside, defending champion Stephanie Parsley battled the gusting winds at The Course at Black Rock Creek to a standstill en route to a 13-stroke win. Parsley shot an 83, two strokes better for the day than Jessica Stevens of Steilacoom. Steilacoom won the team title with 40 points, edging South Whidbey, which finished with 39.

Team scores – Steilacoom 40, South Whidbey 39, Pullman 20.5, Othello 7.5.

Individual scores – Stephanie Parsley, Chelan, 80-83-163; Jessica Stevens, Steilacoom, 91-85-176; Tara Frame, Goldendale, 88-92-180; Kelli Parker, Lakeside, 91-93-184; Taryn Langlois, South Whidbey, 95-89-184.

Also-Jennifer Pan, South Whidbey, 101-100-201; Adrienne Hawley, South Whidbey, 105-106-211.

Class A/B tournament: At Richland, Sprague-Harrington senior Krystal Sharp matched her opening-round total of 86 and finished two strokes ahead of her nearest competitor. Sharp, who was fourth going into the final round, posted a two-day total of 172 as day-one leader Kristin Watts of Colfax fell to sixth, with a final-round 98 after her opening round of 83. Overlake was the team champion followed by Annie Wright.

Individual scoring – Krystal Sharp, Sprague-Harrington, 86-86-172; Lindsey Buergel, Tekoa-Oakesdale, 85-89-174; Jamie Britton, St. John-Endicott, 85-91-176; Jamie Peterson, Adna, 90-87-177; Jamie Weaver, Overlake, 88-92-180; Kristin Watts, Colfax, 83-98-181.

Team scores – Overlake 20, Annie Wright 17, Bush 15, Wahluke 11.
