‘Cats win 3rd straight district title

LYNDEN – Archbishop Murphy won its third straight 2A District 1 softball championship Saturday, defeating Burlington-Edison 5-0 in the title game at Lynden High School.

“It feels good. It feels really good,” said first-year Murphy coach Linsi Moy. “The girls are really excited.”

Pitcher Kayelynne Huggins batted 2-for-3 with two triples and two RBI. She struck out eight batters and walked none.

Brittany Allen and Kristin Ehlebracht each batted 2-for-3 and had a stolen base for the Wildcats.

Now, it’s on to state for the Wildcats where they face a hurdle they’ve yet to clear. After winning first-round games each of the past two season, Murphy has lost in the state quarterfinals.

The state meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Walla Walla Point Park in Wenatchee.
