EVERETT — Clinging to a one-goal lead in the third period, the Everett Silvertips gave up goals to Spokane’s Adam Beckman and Eli Zummack and fell 4-3 on Tuesday night for their second consecutive defeat.
Everett jumped out to an early lead thanks to first-period goals from Brendan Lee and Cole Fonstad.
Beckman scored early in the second, but the Silvertips responded moments later with a goal from Austin Roest to take a 3-1 lead that eventually disappeared.
Dustin Wolf stopped 24 of 28 shots for Everett (9-3-0-0), which still leads the U.S. Division by four points over the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Mason Beaupit made 32 saves on 35 shots for Spokane (3-5-2-1).
Note
The Canadian Hockey League announced the cancellation of the Memorial Cup for the second straight season on Tuesday due to the ongoing global pandemic.
“The CHL is committed to the health and safety of our players, their families and billets, our teams, staff and officials, and the communities in which we play. That has driven all of our difficult decisions for the last year as we have dealt with this global pandemic,” CHL president Dan MacKenzie said in a press release. “The decision was made based on the limitations on travel, border restrictions, and quarantining requirements that would make it impossible to produce league champions.”
The Memorial Cup awards an overall champion of the three leagues that make up the CHL: the Western Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
