TALKING POINTS
Can’t say that was the most exciting game I’ve ever seen. Both coaches seemed happy with the way their teams played in limiting scoring chances for the opposition, but that doesn’t necessarily make for an entertaining game to watch.
However, Chilliwack’s offense finally woke up after Everett took the lead early in the third period, and the Bruins deservedly earned the two points.
This was Everett’s first shootout of the season and it looked it. Neither Everett’s shooters nor goaltender Leland Irving looked particularly comfortable. Odd that the Tips’ first shootout this season came 22 games in after they had a whopping 12 last season, and odd that it came in the very first game without shootout secret weapon Brennan Sonne.
It was also the first game for Everett newcomer Clayton Bauer. I’d have to say he had a pretty quiet debut tonight.
TURNING POINT
The game changed after Kyle Beach gave Everett a 1-0 lead early in the third period. It was all Chilliwack after that.
HIT OF THE DAY
I’m not sure anyone got hit harder than the post did on a one-timer from the point by Chilliwack’s Oscar Moller in the first period. However, Everett’s Taylor Ellington came close when his leveling hit on Jadon Potter just before overtime ended sparked some pushing after the horn.
THREE STARS
First star: Leland Irving, Everett. Certainly had the tougher saves to make between the two goaltenders.
Second star: Oscar Moller, Chilliwack. Most dangerous player on the ice, scored a fantastic goal to tie it, and probably deserved top honors.
Third star: Kyle Beach, Everett. Scored Everett’s goal from absolutely nothing, but missed when he had chances to put the game away.
The Herald’s honorable mention: Matt McCue, Chilliwack. Made some very nice defensive plays to prevent Everett half chances from getting anywhere close to the net.
LINEUP NOTES
For Everett, right wing Dan Gendur (shoulder) and defenseman Taylor Ellington (knee) returned from their injuries. Bauer’s addition, along with the loss of Sonne, caused the Tips to juggled their lines. Shane Harper remained on the line with Zach Hamill and Kyle Beach, with Gendur and Bauer centered by Zack Dailey. Forwards Matt Ius (hip) and Tyler Skauge (concussion) were out injured, and defenseman Jeff Regier was a healthy scratch.
For Chilliwack, defenseman Cam Stevens is out indefinitely with a leg injury. Forwards Colton Graf, Brayden Metz and Liam Darragh and defenseman David Hoda were healthy scratches.
