Cold shooting in second half dooms Tomahawks

Herald staff

MARYSVILLE – A cold-shooting second half for Marysville-Pilchuck spelled disaster in a 56-39 loss to Lake Stevens in a Western Conference North game Friday night.

With the win Lake Stevens improved its record to 4-3 in league and 6-5 overall, while Marysville-Pilchuck is 3-4, 6-5.

Ahead at halftime 24-19, Marysville-Pilchuck’s shooters went frigid from the field as Lake Stevens ran off a 19-9 third quarter to take the lead.

The icy shooting didn’t stop after the third quarter buzzer, either, as Marysville-Pilchuck only connected on two field goals in the fourth quarter.

“We went cold and it continued all the way through the fourth quarter,” said Marysville-Pilchuck coach Emil Whitman. “It was frustrating to watch.”

In the end, though, it was Lake Steven’s free throw shooting that made the difference. The Vikings were 24-for-30 from the free throw line.

Lake Stevens’ Gina Carbonatto led all scorers with 19 points.
