No. 1 Kansas 90, La Salle 65

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Freshman Xavier Henry scored a season-high 31 points, Markieff Morris had a double-double to lead the Jayahawks (9-0) over the Explorers (6-3). Kansas used defense to overcome early rebounding problems, turning a tight game into a rout by holding its eighth opponent under 40 percent shooting this season.

No. 2 Texas 87, Texas St. 54

AUSTIN, Texas — Damion James got his 40th career double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Longhorns (8-0) the Bobcats (3-7). Avery Bradley added 15 points in a win that could be costly for Texas. Freshman J’Covan Brown, who has started four games at guard for Texas this season, had to be helped off the court about 6 minutes into the second half and was favoring his left leg after a fall near the basket. He left the court on crutches a few minutes later.

No. 4 Kentucky 90, Indiana 73

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Eric Bledsoe scored 23 points and Patrick Patterson had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Wildcats (10-0) over the Hooisers (4-5). John Calipari matched Adolph Rupp’s record start for a first-year Kentucky coach by improving to 10-0, and the Wildcats moved within two wins of becoming the first Division I men’s basketball program with 2,000 victories.

No. 5 Purdue 73, Alabama 65

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Robbie Hummel scored 23 points and the Boilermakers (9-0) used stifling defense to rally from a 16-point second-half deficit against the Crimson Tide (5-3). Purdue, which struggled for much of the game against Alabama’s full-court press, held the Tide without a field goal over the final 8:45.

No. 6 West Virginia 69, Coppin St. 43

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Kevin Jones had 22 points and 11 rebounds to help the Mountaineers (7-0) overcome the absence of two starters and beat the Eagles (5-4). Da’Sean Butler added 16 points and Darryl Bryant scored 11 for West Virginia, which held a second straight opponent under 50 points to win its 28th straight home game against a non-conference foe.

No. 11 North Carolina 103, Presbyterian 64

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Ed Davis had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Deon Thompson added 19 points as the Tar Heels (8-2) had no trouble beating up on the Blue Hose (2-8), a team picked to finish last in the Big South. North Carolina fifth-year senior Marcus Ginyard sat out as a precaution with pain in his left foot. Chase Holmes scored a career-high 29 points for Presbyterian.

No. 22 Butler 74, No. 13 Ohio St. 66

INDIANAPOLIS — Gordon Hayward scored 24 points as the Bulldogs (7-3) beat the Buckeyes (7-2). Butler led by 17 points in the final 5 minutes, but Ohio State used a fullcourt press to get back into the game.

New Mexico 84, No. 16 Texas A&M 81

HOUSTON — Roman Martinez scored 22 points, including two key free throws in the final seconds, to lead the Lobos, 10-0 for the first time since the 1995-96 season, over the Aggies (8-2). The Lobos never trailed and were ahead by 17 points with 10 minutes left but had to fight off a late rally by the Aggies.

Kansas State 95, No. 18 UNLV 80

LAS VEGAS — Jacob Pullen hit seven 3-pointers and scored 28 points to lead the Wildcats (9-1) over the Rebels (8-1), their sixth straight win. Pullen was 7-for-10 from beyond the arc and finished 10-for-16 from the field.

No. 20 Wisconsin 72, Marquette 63

MADISON, Wis. — Jon Leuer scored 24 points to lead the Badgers (7-2) over the Golden Eagles (7-3), their in-state rivals. It was career victory No. 200 at Wisconsin for Bo Ryan and the second straight big scoring performance by Leuer.

No. 25 Mississippi 83, McNeese St. 67

OXFORD, Miss. — Chris Warren scored 20 points and Eniel Polynice had all 12 points and four steals over the final 10 minutes of the game to rally the Rebels (8-1) over the Cowboys (3-5). Mississippi trailed by as many as 15 points early in the second half of their first game since entering the Top 25, but they used defense to blow past McNeese St. in the closing minutes.
