Tidal Waves swamp field: The NW Tidal Waves Blue U16 girls won the NSA New Team Invitational tournament held Saturday and Sunday in Lynnwood. Pitcher Laura Hellstrom went 2-0 as the Tidal Waves swept five games. Solid hitting, speed on the bases and tight defense helped the Tidal Waves outscore their opponents 66-20, including a 12-7 victory over the Edmonds Starz Red in the title game. Rachael Sofie, Brittany Humphrey, Krista Richards and Stephanie Boyle led the Waves offensively while outfielder Andie Foundfelter sparkled on defense.

Elite claim tourney title: The Everett Elite U12 girls downed the Rapid Fire of Federal Way 6-3 in the championship game of the NSA New Team Invitational tournament Sunday. Playing games at Kasch Park in Everett and Sky River Park in Monroe, the Elite posted a 5-0-1 mark against the 10-team field.

Cyclones stirring up trouble for opponents: Teams playing in four divisions for the Edmonds Cyclones youth football program have racked up a combined 11-1 mark this season. This past weekend the Cyclone Seniors (ages 12-14) rode the speed of running backs Sean Kelley and Jessie Hoffman to a 35-6 victory over the Lynnwood Flash. The Cyclones also have two 89er teams and a Junior team made up of 10- to 12-year-olds.

FC Silver Lake enjoys 4-1 start: The FC Silver Lake Strikers boys U13 team got a pair of goals from Eric Miller to key a 4-0 shutout victory over the SSC Falcons of Spokane on Saturday. Tyler Wilkins and Sam Loose each added a goal for the Strikers while Jake Mugge, Erik Olsoy and Loose each had an assist. The Strikers finally fell from the unbeaten ranks when they dropped a 2-0 decision to the YMCA Blasters of Tacoma on Sunday.

Avalanche dig out to gain tie: The Cascade Avalanche U11 boys fell into a 3-1 first-half hole, but battled back with three goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half against Magnolia United on Saturday. The United knotted the score at 4-4 in the final minute. Dylan Harrington had a pair of goals, one off of an assist by Chandler McDuffy. Alex Taylor and Max Dewees also had goals for the Avalance who now stand at 2-0-1 on the season.

Fusion move in to first: The Silver Lake Fusion girls U14 used goals by Jessie Ramback and Michelle Gyeney to lift themselves to a 2-1 victory over the Spokane Shadow Sunday to take over first place in the Classic Division.
