The Everett Elks Club crowned six champions on Jan. 19 at the finals of its 35th annual Hoop Shoot.
Josh Bared of Snohomish turned in the top performance of the day, sinking 22 of 25 free throws to win the boys 12-13 age division.
Tyson Human of Arlington, who last year advanced to the regionals in Portland, Ore., made 19 of 25 shots to tie for first in the boys 10-11 division. He then won the tiebreaker by making 4 of 5 shots.
Christian Clausen of Mukilteo won the boys 8-9 division with a 19-for-25 performance.
On the girls side, Xavianna O’Bryant of Arlington and Addison Turner of Mukilteo each made 17 of 25 free throws to win their respective competitions. O’Bryant placed first in the 8-9 division. Turner won the 10-11 competition.
Katelynn Kazen of Arlington placed first in the girls 12-13 division, shooting 12-for-25.
A total of 2,321 students from 15 area schools competed in the preliminary rounds of this year’s hoop shoot, organizers said. The winners in each age division advance to the district finals, scheduled for Saturday in Mount Vernon.
Inline skaters earn medals
The Everett Express Speed Skating Team captured seven medals at the Northwest Inline Invitational held Jan. 17-19 in Auburn. The event drew more than 200 skaters from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Canada.
Everett’s Chuck Hendrick was part of two first-place finishes for the Everett squad. He teamed with Benton Redford to win the Class 2 Man Relay, and joined Jammie Shull to place first in the Class 2 Mix Relay.
Second-place finishers for Everett included Erika Harang (Freshman Girls Standard Division) and Christiaan Johnson (Sophomore Boys Novice Division). Placing third were Nick Dominski (Sophomore Boys Novice Division), Shull (Classic Women Standard Division) and Dana Pratt (Veterans Standard Division).
The Everett team is based out of the Everett Skate Deck. The group was coached by Chuck Hendrick.
