Melhart helps send UW to Women’s College World Series
Snohomish High School graduate Trysten Melhart scored what proved to be the run that sent the University of Washington softball team to the Women’s College World series as the Huskies defeated Utah 2-1 Sunday to win its NCAA Super Regional. In the rubber game of the three-game series, Melhart, a junior right fielder, led off the bottom of the second inning with a walk and eventually scored on Ali Aguilar’s sacrifice fly to make it 2-0, a lead that ended up being enough for victory.
Washington, ranked seventh in the nation, was one of eight teams to advance to the Women’s College World Series, which begins Thursday in Oklahoma City.
