Avery Daniels, a freshman at Everett Community College, earned All-American honors in two events with her performance at the 2017 Northwest Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships held May 22-23 in Gresham, Oregon.

Daniels, a native of Arcadia, Nevada, placed third in the women’s 5,000-meter run (19 minutes, 53.46 seconds) and 10,000 (42:47.75) to earn All-American recognition.

Daniels was one of four members of Everett’s women’s team to place in individual events at the meet. Freshman Andrea Padilla finished fourth in the 10,000 (43:05.92) and sixth in the 5,000 (20:39.61), freshman Jenniya Guillen finished sixth in the 800 (2:33.43) and freshman Jewelia Mieschke (a graduate of Sultan High School) placed seventh in the 400 (1:03.62). Phillips helps UW rowing sweep at nationals

Stanwood High School graduate Margaret Phillips played a role in the University of Washington women’s rowing team becoming the first team in the sport’s 21-year NCAA history to sweep all three grand finals at the NCAA Rowing Championship on Sunday in West Windsor, New Jersey.

Phillips, a senior, was part of Washington’s boat that won the Second Varsity Eight final. The Huskies also won the Varsity Eight final and Varsity Four final to claim the team title.

Melhart helps send UW to Women’s College World Series

Snohomish High School graduate Trysten Melhart scored what proved to be the run that sent the University of Washington softball team to the Women’s College World series as the Huskies defeated Utah 2-1 Sunday to win its NCAA Super Regional. In the rubber game of the three-game series, Melhart, a junior right fielder, led off the bottom of the second inning with a walk and eventually scored on Ali Aguilar’s sacrifice fly to make it 2-0, a lead that ended up being enough for victory.

Washington, ranked seventh in the nation, was one of eight teams to advance to the Women’s College World Series, which begins Thursday in Oklahoma City.

Neale to make return to NCAA nationals

Glacier Peak High School graduate Amy-Eloise Neale qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Championships in the women’s 1,500 for a second straight year.

Neale, a junior at the University of Washington, placed fourth at the NCAA West Regionals, finishing in a time of 4:18.82. The top six advanced to nationals. Neale placed 10th in the 1,500 at last year’s nationals to earn second-team All-American honors.

Nationals are June 7-10 in Eugene, Oregon.

Charleson 19th at Division II nationals

Jackson High School graduate Mary Charleson, a junior at Seattle Pacific University, placed 15th in the 5,000 at the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Bradenton, Florida.

Charleson, the only runner from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference to qualify in the 5,000, timed in at 17:15.48.
