The Lake Elite girls basketball team won the High School Elite Junior Division at the Best of the West AAU tournament held May 8-10 in Yakima.
Lake Elite, which plays out of the Snohomish County Basketball Academy, posted a 5-1 record in the tourney. Lake Elite’s only defeat was a 61-48 loss to Puget Sound Flight in the opening round. Lake Elite rebounded, however, to win five in a row, including a 61-36 victory over Puget Sound Flight in the championship game.
Members of the Lake Elite team included Mollie Antiojo, Chantelle Burke, Corine Burke, Sara Dowling, Taylor Gordon, Sarah Joyce and Jolana Ziskovsky.
The team was coached by Ryan Perkins. He was assisted by R.J. Perkins.
Peeters wins two boat races
John Peeters of Arlington won a pair of races Saturday at the Silver Lake Regatta on Silver Lake in south Everett. The event was for outboard hydroplanes and runabouts.
Peeters placed first in both the 45SST and DSH classifications.
The only other Snohomish County driver to place first was Catherine Brewer of Lake Stevens, who was first in the 350CCH class.
The top performers at the regatta were Aaron Peterson of Renton, who won three races (ASH, AXSR, ASR), and Mike Perman of Maple Valley, who also won three races (20SSH, CSH, CSR).
Mill Creek gymnast places first
Raechal Allen of Mill Creek won the Level 5 overall competition in the Junior 12-year-old division at the Washington State Level 5-6 Spring Championships.
The championships were held May 2-3 in Everett.
Allen, who competes for Everett-based Leading Edge Gymnastics, finished with a score of 37.500 to edge teammate Tiara Huffaker of Everett (36.950)
Puget Sound’s Rockey honored
Mark Rockey, a junior catcher for the University of Puget Sound, has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association 2009 All-West Region first team.
Rockey, from Mountlake Terrace, hit .444 in 39 games this past season. He set a school record with 17 doubles and finished the season with 13 home runs and 49 runs batted in.
