An American team that included Luc Violette of Lake Stevens won the silver medal in mixed team curling at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games, held Feb. 12-21 in Lillehammer, Norway.
It marked the first team medal for the United States at this event.
The U.S. team also included Cora Farrell of Fairbanks, Alaska, Ben Richardson of Issaquah, and Cait Flannery of Mankato, Minn. The team was coached by Tom Violette, Luc’s father.
The American foursome finished with an 8-2 record after dropping the gold-medal match to Canada. Still, the runner-up finish was the best for the U.S. in under-21 competition since the Americans won gold at the 2008 World Junior Championships.
The tournament was “amazing,” Tom Violette said. “I couldn’t be prouder of the team. They were really playing to their potential.”
