Community roundup: Local MMA star wins bout in Atlantic City

Miranda Granger continued her meteoric rise, defeating Jamie Colleen by 1st-round submission.

Chalk up another win for Miranda Granger.

The rising mixed martial arts star, who’s a graduate of Glacier Peak High School and fights out of Charlie’s Combat Club in Everett, improved her professional record to 5-0 Friday when she defeated Jamie Colleen by first-round submission as part of Cage Fury Fighting Championships 71 at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Granger, fighting outside the state of Washington for the first time, needed just 2 minutes, 11 seconds to win by armbar submission against Colleen, a veteran fighter who’s a former King of the Cage women’s strawweight champion. Friday’s strawweight (115 pounds) bout was scheduled for three 5-minute rounds.

Speculation afterward was Granger’s victory could open up opportunities at higher levels, including the UFC.
