Community roundup: Moriarity claims Super Late Models title

It’s been a wild season for Moriarity, with a few wins, a fiery crash and now a championship.

It’s been a memorable second season racing Super Late Models at Evergreen Speedway for Monroe’s Trenton Moriarity, a campaign that contained everything from multiple trips to the winner’s circle to involvement in a fiery crash. But on Saturday Moriarity’s season concluded on yet another high.

Moriarity took the checkered flag Saturday during the SLM main event on Championship Night 1, locking down his first points championship in Evergreen Speedway’s biggest classification.

Moriarity came into the night leading Jeff Knight by 36 points in the standings, and he confirmed his status as this year’s top racer by finishing first in Saturday’s 108-lap race. The victory was Moriarity’s third of the season. He finished with 523 points to finish ahead of Daniel Moore (479) and Knight (469).

Chad Fitzpatrick finished tied for fourth with 429 points to claim Rookie of the Year.

Three other points champions were crowned Saturday. Roger Drake won the Street Stock championship, Dawson Cox claimed the Hornet championship, and Brad Thomas took home the Mini Stock championship.

Four more champions — Super Stock Figure 8, Outlaw Figure 8, Stinger 8 and Pro 4 Trucks — will be crowned this Saturday during Championship Night 2.

Lynnwood club places at World Roller Games

Lynnwood’s Keaton Mitchell and Bellevue’s Esha Harwalkar of the Lynnwood Expressions artistic roller skating club claimed fourth place in Junior (18-under) World Class Pairs to highlight the club’s involvement at the World Roller Games, which concluded Sept. 10 in Nanjing, China. It was the second straight year in which Mitchell and Harwalkar took fourth at the world championships.

Of the Expressions’ other competitors, Graham’s Alexis Herbert and Chicago’s Eric Mueller placed eighth in Senior World Class Pairs, Herbert placed 14th in Junior World Class Freestyle, and Seattle’s Adrienne Erickson placed 31st in Senior World Class Freestyle.
